Lil Nas X has finally dropped the long-awaited video for his current single "Panini" and there's not a cowboy hat in sight.
Instead, the video is set in a futuristic, Bladerunner-inspired world where electronic advertisements are everywhere. Skai Jackson, star of the Disney Channel series Jessie and Bunk'd, plays the female lead, who's bothered by the fact that Lil Nas X stars in every ad she sees.
She attempts to escape by hopping in a futuristic car, but he appears in real life, wearing some kind of body armor, and dancing with robots as he tries to persuade her to stay. She runs away and gets on a plane, but Nas appears on the wing, and on her in-flight seat back screen, continuing to dance and sing. She bails out of the plane with a jetpack, but he follows her with his jet-powered boots.
When Skai finally lands, X, who's still following her, sings, "Just say to me, what you want from me" and then hits a button on his wrist computer. All the electronic ads disappear, and are replaced by images of plants, trees and flowers. Finally, she smiles.
"BIG THANK YOU TO SKAI JACKSON!!" Lil Nas tweeted, to which Skai replied, "No, big thank you to YOU!! Thank you for having me be a part of this. LOVE YA!"
Meanwhile, Billboard reports that in addition to "Old Town Road" being Billboard's Song of the Summer, the #1 hit also had the most-searched-for lyrics of the summer in the U.S., according to LyricFind. "Someone You Loved" by Lewis Capaldi was number two, followed by "South of the Border," by Ed Sheeran feat. Camila Cabello & Cardi B.
