“Old Town Road” leads “Bad Guy” in lyrics usages & searches so far in summer 2019

What will be 2019’s song of the summer? It’s still too early to tell (Labor Day, the official close of the summer chart season, is more than a month away), though Billboard has begun to track its progress with the Songs of the Summer chart each week. But LyricFind, which partners with Billboard to track lyric searches and usages both domestically and globally, has an idea of what song it might be, especially on a global level -- and it probably won’t surprise you.

Since the beginning of May 2019, LyricFind reports that the No. 1 song in trending lyric usages and searches globally is Lil Nas X’s “Old Town Road,” featuring Billy Ray Cyrus.

Followers of the Billboard charts are unlikely to bat an eye; in addition to breaking the record for the most weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in its history on the Aug. 3-dated tally, “Old Town Road” has also crowned the Songs of the Summer chart since it kicked off for 2019 Billboard’s June 8-dated rankings.

That’s all, of course, based on radio, streaming and sales data in the U.S. LyricFind, meanwhile, ranks the fastest momentum-gaining tracks in lyric-search queries globally and in the U.S., respectively. The company is the world's leader in licensed lyrics, with data provided by more than 4,000 publishers and utilized by more than 100 services, including Amazon, Pandora, Deezer, Microsoft, SoundHound and iHeartRadio. These are illustrated each week on Billboard the LyricFind U.S. and LyricFind Global charts.

In LyricFind’s 10 top trending lyrics of the summer thus far, Billie Eilish’s “Bad Guy” ranks at No. 2 – a spot with which it is quite familiar, having spent seven weeks to date at No. 2 on the Hot 100. Then comes Meduza’s “Piece of Your Heart,” a No. 1 song on Billboard’s Dance Club Songs chart dated May 25, with Shawn Mendes’ “If I Can’t Have You” and Sigala’s “Wish You Well,” featuring Becky Hill, rounding out the top five.
