Chris Cornell Songs Storm LyricFind Charts After His Death

“Black Hole Sun” leads both the LyricFind U.S. and LyricFind Global charts in the week after his death.

Less than a week after Chris Cornell died in his hotel room in Detroit after a performance with Soundgarden, the legendary grunge singer sweeps the top five spots of both the LyricFind U.S. and LyricFind Global charts (either solo or as a member of Soundgarden or Audioslave).

The LyricFind Global and LyricFind U.S. charts rank the fastest momentum-gaining tracks in lyric-search queries globally and in the U.S., respectively, provided by LyricFind. The Global chart includes queries from all countries except the U.S. The company is the world's leader in licensed lyrics, with data provided by more than 4,000 publishers and utilized by more than 100 services, including Amazon, Pandora, Deezer, Shazam, Microsoft, Yahoo, SoundHound and iHeartRadio. The new June 3-dated charts’ tracking week ended on May 22.

Cornell claims each of the top seven spots of the LyricFind Global chart and seven of the top eight songs on the LyricFind U.S. tally. Four of the Cornell songs are as a member of Soundgarden, two are with Audioslave and the last is his 1998 solo hit “Sunshower.”

Chris Cornell's Biggest Billboard Chart Hits
Soundgarden’s 1994 Alternative Songs No. 2 hit “Black Hole Sun” tops both rankings. The track also debuted at No. 5 on the Rock Digital Song Sales chart and at No. 7 on the Hot Rock Songs chart this week (charts dated June 3).

While “Black Hole Sun” ranks No. 1 on both LyricFind charts, Soundgarden’s “Fell On Black Days” earned the sharpest gain in lyric search queries on the day of Cornell’s death. The song debuts at No. 4 on the Global and U.S. charts with a 26,000 percent increase in search queries.
